Shaykh Rahmatullah al-Arkani (Myanmar, 1343-1436 =1925- 2015)

 

Rahmatullah ibn Abdul Ghani ibn Ibrahim al-Arkani al-Madani was a famous scholar who
resided in Madinah and spent most of his life dedicated to serving the religion through
impar􀆟ng knowledge.
He was born in 1343 (1925) in Myanmar and his family are from the Rohingya from the
Muslim region of Arakan. He began acquiring knowledge from a young age and his quest for
knowledge took him to India where he studied at Mazahir al-Ulum in Saharanpur a􀅌er which
he moved to Darul Ulum Deoband.
He studied under some illustrious scholars who included:
 Shaykh Husayn Ahmad al-Madani (d. 1377=1957). He studied Sahih al-Bukhari and
the first half of Jami al-Tirmidhi with him.
 Moulana I’zaz Ali al-Amrohi (d. 1374=1955). With him he studied Sunan Abi Dawud,
the second half of Jami al-Tirmidhi and the Shamail.
 Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim Bilyawi with whom he studied Sahih Muslim.
 His spiritual guide was Shaykh Muhammad Tayyib ibn Muhammad Ahmad al-
Nanotwi al-Qasimi (d. 1404=1984). He remained closely connected to him and even
studied some of Mishkat al-Masabih and Hujjatullah al-Balighah with him.
 Moulana Fakhr al-Hasan al-Amrohi with whom he studied Sunan al-Nisai.
 Moulana Zuhur Ahmad al-Deobandi with whom he studied Sunan Ibn Majah.
 Mu􀅌i Mahdi Hasan Shahjahanpuri with whom he studied Sharh Ma’ani al-Athar.
 Shaykh Muhammad Ismail Abdul Qadir al-Arkani.
1 «( 1436-1343 ه ) « شيخُنا رحمةُ للهِ الأَرَكاني في ذمَّةِ لله .. كلماتُ وفاءٍ ورثاءِ
I visited him along with some ulama amongst them was Sh Safwan Dawudi, Sh Yahya Ghawthany and Sh
Ahmad Ashur during which a por􀆟on of Hujjatullah al-Balighat was recited to him and I received ijazah from
him.
Therea􀅌er, he moved to the land of the two Holy Sanctuaries (Makkah and Madinah), where
he resided from 1373=1954. In 1385=1966 he se􀆩led in Madinah. He visited Bayt al-Maqdis,
Damascus, and Aleppo. He authored a few trea􀆟ses or short books. One of these is Sadd al-
Fajwah wa al-Thulmah bayn al-Ikhwat wa al-Ummah, which was published in Madinah in
1423=2002.
He passed away on the 17 Ramadan 1436 (July 2015) in Madinah
